Litter Pick 14 June

14th June 2020 by Stuart Jarvis Leave a Comment

Back in action after lockdown, today we picked along Southampton Road from the Motorway to the Haywain collecting a total of 7 bags. This takes our total bags collected so far over the 400 mark.

Even though we have not been picking during lockdown the Parish has not been suffering from too much litter. We expect this to change as takeaways re-open and more people are out and about.

As we are practicing social distancing and not sharing cars we are now meeting at the starting point of the pick instead of at the Parish Hall. Make sure we have your e-mail address so we can let you know the start point a couple of days ahead.

Regular Sunday Picks Suspended

24th March 2020 by Stuart Jarvis Leave a Comment

It seems that with the government ban on all outside gatherings we have no choice but to suspend our regular Sunday litter picks for the time being.

We are still allowed outside for exercise, on our own or with a member of the same household, so if your idea of exercise extends to litter picking there is no reason why we can’t continue just picking alone as we feel inclined.

Also, a lot of the credibility which Parish Pickers has earned comes from the number of bags we have managed to collect, so if you are out picking, please remember to send us a quick e-mail to let us know how much you picked and where it came from.

With a bit of individual effort we should be able to keep the Parish as clean as it is now. Please help if you can.

Litter Picks this week

22nd March 2020 by Stuart Jarvis Leave a Comment

Another record week for litter cleared from Copythorne Parish!
Firstly the WI, and I gather a couple of WI husbands did a pick on Friday an collected a total of 7 bags. Well Done Lois for organising that and I understand the WI are out again tomorrow.
Secondly, Stuart our esteemed leader was out picking during the week and collected a total of 6 bags from Salisbury Road up to Tatchbury and along Winsor Road.
Thirdly, Jill and I were walking through Brockishill Enclosure when Jill spotted some litter well away from the main path. We investigated further, went home for our pickers and hauled out 4 bags full from what looked like the site of some wild camping party.
Then finally we were out today in glorious sunshine along Romsey Road from the Empress to Salisbury Road and along Whitemoor Lane and collected another 5 bags.
So altogether this week that is 22 bags of litter pushing the total up to 387. Well done Parish Pickers and thank you to the WI.
The new rules of come if you are social distancing but not if you are self isolating and don’t share a car with anyone you are not already living with worked well today.
